A former Kennesaw State University dean was convicted last week of charges in connection with an alleged scheme to bilk the school of thousands of dollars, authorities said Monday.
Yiping Wan, dean of KSU's Bagwell College of Education, was found guilty of two felony counts of making false statements and/or writings.
Wan was indicted in April 2008 on the two charges and three counts of theft by taking on allegations he cheated the school out of reimbursement funds for airline tickets to China.
According to court officials, Wan purchased three plane tickets for university-related trips to China, after having made an arrangement with a travel agent to buy the tickets at an inflated price.
He subsequently had the travel agent reimburse him the difference of the prices, then submitted reimbursement requests to the university for the larger amount, court officials said.
Wan received $3,930 more than he should have been reimbursed, officials said.
He resigned in 2007.
Wan was sentenced to five years probation and was ordered to pay the university $3,930 in restitution plus a $2,000 fine.
