Floyd County police believe an area grocery store owner who was robbed and killed Saturday was targeted.
Two gunmen shot Leapolde Cardenas, 47, four times after they invaded Cardenas’ home, tied up his family and robbed his store, police said.
Cardenas owned Celia’s Market on Shorter Avenue in Rome.
According to reports, the gunmen got into the house, tied up a woman, her nephew and two kids, and waited for the victim to get home.
Once he arrived, the men tied him up and one of the gunmen transported him to the store, where the men took money from a safe before returning to the home. The men then killed him at the home.
Floyd police are actively investigating the robbery and killing, Captain Mark Wallace with Floyd County police said.
