Flowery Branch Road bridge over I-85 to close for six months

GDOT construction partners will close the Flowery Branch Road bridge over Interstate 85 beginning Jan. 6 for approximately 180 days. The work, which is part of the I-85 Widening project, will result in the demolition and replacement of the bridge. Flowery Branch Road will be closed to thru traffic from Apple Grove Road to Lilly Stem Drive. Temporary signage will divert northbound traffic on Flowery Branch Road to Spout Springs Road and southbound traffic to Braselton Highway.

Flowery Branch Road Bridge is the final bridge replacement in the I-85 Widening, Phase 1 project. This phase adds 26 new lane miles by widening both directions of I-85 from two to three lanes between I-985 in Gwinnett and Ga. 53 in Jackson and replaces three I-85 overpass bridges (Spout Springs Road, Jesse Cronic Road, and Flowery Branch Road). All three structures are over 50 years old.
