Firefighters fired in Dunwoody fatal fire

DeKalb County officials on Friday terminated four firefighters suspended for their response to a fatal Dunwoody house fire.

Acting officer William J. Greene, Capt. Tony L. Motes and Battalion Chiefs Lesley Clark and Bennie J. Paige were fired for "neglect of duty" following an investigation into fire response time in the Jan. 24 fire that killed 74-year-old Ann Bartlett.

Bartlett called 911 at 1:03 a.m. that Sunday morning to report the fire, but firefighters responding to the scene 15 minutes later left when they couldn't find evidence of the fire, the investigative report said.

Another DeKalb County Fire and Rescue officer, Capt. Sell Caldwell, was placed on administrative leave with pay, along with Motes, Clark and Greene, earlier in the week as the department conducted an internal investigation.
