9,000 square foot mansion destroyed in early morning blaze on monday, march 15.

A 9,000-square-foot mansion in north Fulton County burned to the ground early Monday morning, despite the efforts of four fire agencies to control the blaze.

Firefighters described the fire on 5850 Winterthur Drive near Northside Drive in Sandy Springs as one of the worst they have faced.

No one was in the house when the fire started after 2:30 a.m. Monday, investigators said.

Fire investigators who were called to the scene weren't able to get in until hot spots were all extinguished.
