A fire that damaged a Gainesville church may have started in the basement, the Hall County fire chief said Saturday.

Despite damage to 60 percent of the church, Sunday services will be held at Harmony Hall Church on Magnum Mill Road, the pastor said.

When firefighters arrived at the church on  Friday evening, they found the fire well under way. Fire Chief David Kimbrell said a neighbor called in the blaze.

Kimbrell said it appeared the blaze started somewhere in a basement area and proceeded up the back side of the church, up a wall and into the upstairs and attic.

Senior Pastor John Kinsey said services will be held Sunday.

"We have an education building that wasn't affected by the fire, so we're trying to get everything set up with the education building to be able to continue on with services,"  Kinsey told accessnorthga.com.

No injuries were reported.
