A historic home was destroyed by fire early Tuesday, Milton fire officials said.

The Milton fire department responded to a fire at Seven Gables Farm, located on Hopewell Road, at about 3 a.m., said Milton fire spokesman Andrew Kennedy.

The family living in the 150-year-old farmhouse escaped, but four pets perished in the fire.

The recently renovated 8,000-square-feet home is a "total loss," said Kennedy. He said the fire seemed to originate in the garage, and the home was fully involved in flame when crews arrived.

Seven Gables Farm, owned by John Bogino, is known to offer horseback riding lessons and other equestrian activities.

No injuries were reported.
