Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a woman from Georgia was killed in a crash on the Turnpike Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike in Kenansville, which is in south Osceola County.

An 87-year-old woman was driving a Ford van when she lost control, hit a guardrail and overturned, troopers said. Her passenger, a 49-year-old woman, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to officials.

The 87-year-old driver was rushed to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Both of the women are from Georgia, troopers said. Their names haven't been released by officials.
