Fayette County Schools has won one of the Georgia Department of Education’s inaugural Leading Edge awards for the implementation of its Community for Creativity program.

The program, which the district launched last year at Rising Starr Middle School and added to Flat Rock Middle School this fall, attempts to expose students to future careers by bringing in outside professionals with real life experiences in different work segments.

At Rising Starr, the Community for Creativity focus has been on creative industries while Flat Rock Middle focused its attention on innovative sustainable communities.

The state’s Leading Edge Award was launched this year to recognize “out-of-the-box” practices by school systems to ensure students will be competitive in the global market.
