Fayette County continues to take measures to insure voting security, according to Floyd Jones, director of elections and voter registration.

Jones addressed the Board of Commissioners meeting on Sept. 13 to update the members on procedures that will precede the Nov. 6 elections. He described a variety of security measures related to the voting machines and server, and the technology involved in transmitting results to the state for tabulation, noting that no internet connections are used to upload data from the voting machine memory cards.

However, regarding a state proposal to switch to paper ballots this year, Jones said, “I think it would be disastrous for us at this point in time.” The public is invited to observe the logic and accuracy testing of the county’s voting machines at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 24 at the elections trailer at 146 McDonough Road in Fayetteville.
