A Buckhead father convicted of torturing his 4-year-old son to death was sentenced Monday to life in prison.
Marcos Cordero was found guilty by a Fulton County jury last month of felony murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children. Cordero brought 4-year-old Marc's lifeless body to Piedmont Hospital in January 2008, telling police his son was "the devil," according to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office. Cordero claimed the boy cut and beat himself with knives and other objects.
But the child's mother, Sabina Mendez, testified Cordero beat Marc with everything from a 2×4 to a toilet plunger and repeatedly kicked the boy. Mendez, sentenced Monday to two years in prison for cruelty in the first degree, told prosecutors she never sought help for her son because she was terrified of Cordero.
