The father of a 17-year-old accused of killing a Clayton County deputy was convicted in an unrelated case Monday of bribing an immigration officer and is expected to be deported.

Hing Bun, 43, of Riverdale was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials after being sentenced to six months of home confinement and four and a half years of probation, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced. He is expected to remain in custody until his deportation to Cambodia.

Bun is the father of Johnathan Bun, who allegedly shot and killed Clayton deputy Richard “Rick” Daly in July 2011. The officer was trying to serve Jonathan Bun with an arrest warrant for a January robbery.

Four other people also were sentenced in the bribery case -- Rotana Khov, 34, of Atlanta; Pisa Phosai, 34, of McDonough; Voeun Lim, 27, of Charlotte; and Savoeun Kroch, 31, of College Park. All of the defendants pleaded guilty last year.

In an effort to eliminate the requirements that they periodically check in with immigration officials, the defendants paid or attempted to pay thousands of dollars to an ICE assistant, who was working undercover and reporting them, authorities said. The defendants also believed that the assistant was removing their criminal histories from their ICE records, which they thought would help them stay in the United States legally.
