A motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after hitting a car head-on in Lilburn, police said.

Lilburn police Capt. Thom Bardugon said the motorcyclist was headed northbound on U.S. 29 when he collided with a vehicle stopped in the center turn lane near Inland Way. Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist was in the center lane to pass other cars.

The motorcyclist lived in unincorporated Gwinnett, Bradugon said, but his identity was withheld pending notification of his family.

The car's driver was "shaken but not injured," Bardugon said.

No other information was immediately available.
