The federal Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $900,000 to DeKalb County to help clean contaminated properties.

Of the money, $650,000 will be in a revolving loan for cleanup of hazardous substances and $250,000 will go toward cleaning petroleum. The removal of such materials is critical to helping redevelop contaminated properties, known as brownfields.
