An elderly man was killed and a firefighter was injured in a blaze at a Forest Park home Friday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

When firefighters arrived on the scene on North Avenue, there was heavy smoke and part of the house already was engulfed in flames.

Two women escaped safely after trying to save their bedridden uncle, the report said. The deceased man's name has not been released.

A firefighter was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and dehydration, Channel 2 said.

Forest Park fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blaze, which appears to be accidental, the report said.
