A volunteer committee of educators from AdvancED has completed a certification review of the Fayette County public school system.

On Oct. 22-23, the six-member team visited eight schools, logging 80 classroom observations and conducting interviews with 315 stakeholders including administrators, teachers, parents and students.

At a called Board of Education meeting on Oct. 24, Darrell Barringer, who led the team, gave the board an overview of the preliminary findings, which focused on continuous improvement in areas related to leadership, learning, resources and capacity. Barringer said the school system was well beyond the implementation phase of all programs, but still faces the challenge of implementing standards systemically in all schools.

A written report with detailed data will be released in four to six weeks.
