Whether by website or cable TV or Facebook or Twitter, East Point is putting out the word: Sunday liquor sales will begin this weekend in the Fulton County city.
Having received certified results from the Nov. 8 referendum Tuesday, the city announced throughout multiple media that its Sunday sales law is now in effect, permitting alcohol to be sold on the Sabbath between 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
East Point is among the first communities in metro Atlanta and the latest in Georgia to announce the beginning of Sunday sales, made possible by state legislation enacted earlier this year allowing local governments to vote on the issue.
Earlier in the day, Bibb County commissioners in Macon indicated that Sunday sales would begin there Dec. 4.
But several Atlanta-area cities – including 11 in Fulton and Gwinnett counties – also could begin Sunday sales as early as this weekend. They include Alpharetta, College Park, Lawrenceville, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Snellville.
Roswell's website, for example, says Sunday sales will begin Nov. 20, assuming that city received certified election results Tuesday.
Voters in the city of Atlanta also approved Sunday sales, but under an ordinance passed by the City Council in October, the sales will not begin until Jan. 1.
