Mystery surrounds the death of 18-year-old Andre Francis, who was still conscious when DeKalb County police found him bleeding in a parking lot Wednesday afternoon.

He told officers he’d been shot by an “unknown male of an unknown description,” a police report released Friday said. Near him in the apartment parking lot on Snapfinger Woods Drive was a handgun stolen from the Smyrna Police Department, along with a copy of the Playstation game “Call of Duty.”

Investigators aren’t sure why Francis was shot because his statements before he died at the hospital weren’t detailed, Lt. Lonzy Robertson said.

“The witness only heard the shot,” Robertson.

The man, who isn’t named in the report, found Francis shot, with the gun nearby. The witness kicked the gun away and tried to help Francis.

Asked if the Smyrna gun was the one that shot Francis, Robertson said ballistics tests will have to be done.
