Furniture movers hurt in DeKalb neighborhood shootout

Two men were taken to DeKalb jail in connection with the shooting.

DeKalb County police believe an attempt to rob two furniture movers led to a shootout off Flat Shoals Parkway last week, injuring three people.

Police said they were called to the house on Waldrop Hills Drive on Wednesday night and found the men who'd been delivering the furniture, ages 27 and 30, shot in the driveway. A third man, now identified by authorities as shooting suspect, Larry Dixon, 26, was also shot.

Lt. Lonzy Robertson of DeKalb police said Tuesday that detectives believe Dixon, along with 24-year-old Russell Fairchild, were robbing the victims when the homeowner heard the commotion. The homeowner told police he was shot at and then pulled his own gun and returned fire.

The suspects fled.

The only things stolen from the movers, who’d just delivered a sofa, were a few dollars from one’s pocket and the wallet of the other, a report said.

Dixon and Fairchild remained in the county jail Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault.
