A Dunwoody police officer saved a 51-year-old man''s life earlier this month with assistance from the city's new portable defibrillators, according to police.

Officer Dale Laskowski responded to a call on Mile Post Drive at about 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 3, according to police. When Laskowski arrived at the home, he noticed the man "was unresponsive and not breathing."

Laskowski then applied the pads of the Automated External Defibrillator and began assessing the man. When the officer determined there was no pulse, he administered CPR until the DeKalb County Fire Department arrived at the scene.

The man was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later made a full recovery. He wasn't immediately identified by the police.

Dunwoody police noted that each officer was equipped and trained with a defibrillator through a program named "The Heart of Dunwoody." Each officer was also recently certified in CPR.
