Dunwoody hires economic development director

Dunwoody has hired its first economic development director, to help the city retain existing businesses and lure new ones.

Michael Starling, most recently the senior business development manager for DeKalb County’s office of economic development, begins in the job on Oct. 18. He will work for the city under its current contract with Clark Patterson Lee. That contract will increase by $112,000 next year as part of the expanded duties.

Starling, who has 15 years of experience in the field, has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of South Florida and is finishing a master’s degree in urban policy studies from Georgia State University.
