The Duluth City Council recently agree to amend the city manager’s contract to increase the annual car allowance from $100 per pay period to $200 per pay period, or $5,200 annually. The new rate reflects an increase in mileage and fuel cost experienced by the city manager who conducts city business using his own personal vehicle.

As part of the city’s annual survey, staff reported the Duluth car allowance remains lower than most cities. For example, a car allowance totals $7,500 in Johns Creek, $7,200 in Alpharetta, $7,200 in Suwanee, $11,700 in Snellville, $7,800 in Dunwoody, $8,400 in Sandy Springs, with only Chamblee at $4,800 and Norcross at $3,600 lower. Lawrenceville and Milton provide a take home car for their city managers.
