The sounds of drums and bugles will be ringing through downtown Atlanta 0n Saturday as the Drum Corps International summer tour makes its annual stop at the Georgia Dome for the DCI Atlanta Southeastern Championships.

Twenty-two 150-member groups from as far away as California, Washington state and Massachusetts will join the hometown Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps for Saturday's competition, which begins at 2 p.m.

Next door to the Dome, the Atlanta Gospel Fest begins on Friday and continues Saturday at the Georgia World Congress Center. Shirley Caesar and Regina Belle are among the performers scheduled to appear.

Other events downtown this weekend include a three-game series between the Braves and Phillies at Turner Field. Game times are 7:35 p.m. on Friday, 7:10 p.m. on Saturday and 1:35 p.m. on Sunday.

Music and sports fans headed to those events will need to be aware of a couple of weekend road construction projects.

Paving is planned on the Buford/Spring Connector north and southbound from 9 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. on Monday. In that same general area, the exit ramp from I-85 northbound to Monroe Drive will be shut down for construction from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

In Bartow County, the left lane of I-75 southbound near Cassville-White Road will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through10 a.m. Monday.

The forecast for the weekend is for hot weather, with a 30 percent chance of rain on Saturday. Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting highs each day in the low 90s.
