A Cobb County man suffered serious injuries after his vehicle crashed into a tree early Monday.

Cobb County police said the collision occurred at 12:03 a.m. April 8 on Oak Lane near Wyeth Walk in Marietta.

According to traffic investigators, a white 2009 Mazda RX8 was traveling eastbound on Oak Lane and when it tried to negotiate a curve, the car veered off the roadway and plowed into a tree.

The driver, 27-year-old Evan Jones of Marietta, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable, condition.

Cobb police spokesman Neil Penirelli said alcohol and “excessive speed” are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
