Two people were killed early Tuesday when a truck crashed into two utility poles and a sign in Carroll County, authorities said.

The 23-year-old driver, Douglas Franklin Bass of Douglasville and 30-year-old Matthew Brown of North Carolina died, Georgia State Patrol officials said.

Shortly after 1 a.m., a westbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was speeding along a curve on Rockmart Road and left the roadway, the GSP said. The truck overturned after hitting the poles and the sign, according to the GSP.

None of the people in the truck was wearing seat belts, according to the statement.
