Gwinnett County police Monday identified a motorist killed Saturday morning in a three-vehicle wreck near Duluth.

The wreck happened just before 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Old Peachtree Road.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said preliminary indications are that a Jeep Cherokee driven by Michael H. Colson of Duluth ran the red light, colliding with a Toyota Highlander and a Lexus RX350.

Both the Jeep and the Lexus overturned, and Colson, 58, was ejected and killed, Ritter said.

The driver of the Lexus, 49-year-old Mumtaz A. Virani, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Ritter said there were no indications that alcohol was involved.

"It appears the primary cause of the accident was [Colson] failing to stop for the red light," Ritter said.
