Despite a recent post on OnlineAthens.com, the sun has not exploded.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports their website was the victim of an online miscue early Monday morning when an alert message reading "the sun just exploded" was published to the top of the homepage.

The unauthorized item read, “This is the emergency broadcast system. Please ignore this message as always. BTW, the sun just exploded, and we’re all about to die.”

The Banner-Herald has since removed the post from its website and is investigating the incident.

“We’re currently trying to determine what happened to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” said Joel Kight, director of digital at OnlineAthens.com, in the Banner-Herald article.
