Atlanta police planned to send a dive team Monday to a lake within walking distance of where a missing Buckhead woman's car was found a little more than two weeks ago.
But police cautioned they have no reason to believe Stacey Nicole English's body will be found in Lakewood Fairgrounds Lake.
The lake is a mile from where the 36-year-old SunTrust Bank instructional designer's Volvo was discovered, with the engine running, on Dec. 27 -- the same day family members reported the woman missing.
"We are planning to send divers into the lake on Monday, but only as a precaution," said Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos. "We have not received any information that led us there."
Evidence remains scarce as the search for English enters its third week. The woman is classified as a missing person, though police have noted "suspicious circumstances" that have investigators examining all options, including the possibility the Fayette County High School graduate met with foul play.
Those closest to English fear the worst, saying she maintained daily contact with family and friends and would not just run away. English's parents have hired private investigator TJ Ward to assist in the investigation.
Ward told the AJC Thursday he is engaged in a "process of elimination," visiting the woman's condo and inspecting her car. He has yet to rule out anything but said English's home and vehicle should be treated as crime scenes.
Meanwhile, friends and family held a vigil for English on Thursday night at Midtown's Park Tavern restaurant.
Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell said he is working to double the $5,000 reward being offered for information that leads investigators to English. Anyone with information on the missing woman is asked to call Atlanta Crime Stoppers, 404-577-8477.
