Deputy county manager, employee pay discussed at Cobb retreat

March 26, 2012

Commissioner Bob Ott would like Cobb County to create an assistant county manager position as part of the county’s succession plan. Cobb currently does not have a second-in-command under longtime County Manager David Hankerson.

Ott’s recommendation was made as part of county leaders’ review Tuesday of a citizens committee report released in February, examining the county’s organization, priorities and spending. The main recommendations from the committee were for Cobb to improve its information technology systems, and establish separate audit and compensation oversight committees. Cobb also plans to complete a marketing study better determine appropriate employee salaries and benefits.

County Manager David Hankerson presented management’s response to the recommendations Tuesday, and will report back to the commission in April on items including a recommendation for a county organizational chart and IT committee.
