Cobb County Sheriff’s Office has identified the Smyrna man who tried to run over a deputy Tuesday and was then shot as Andrew Jerome Hector.

Authorities said Hector fled from deputies as they tried to serve a warrant Tuesday around 6 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre. The 22-year-old man accelerated his car, rammed a concrete barrier, striking a deputy. In turn, the deputy fired four rounds and struck Hector in the arm, said spokeswoman Nancy Bodiford in a press release.

Hector was later found and arrested by Sandy Springs Police and taken to North Fulton Hospital. He was then transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for surgery, according to authorities.

Hector has a history of eluding police. The suspect had an outstanding felony warrant for fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, obstruction as well as other traffic charges, according to Sheriff Neil Warren.

It’s unclear whether Hector will face additional charges.

Bodiford said the deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigations.
