Georgia Department of Corrections employees are moving into their new workplace on the old Tift College campus in Forsyth.

The move to the site south of metro Atlanta in Monroe County was announced in 2006.

Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens says 400 to 450 employees will be moving into their new space in the coming weeks, with the move expected to be completed by mid-November.

Owens says the move will consolidate five Department of Corrections locations now in Atlanta and free up space in a state office building in Atlanta.

Owens says more employees who live south of Atlanta are being hired, making it unnecessary for them to battle Atlanta traffic.
