Delta flight diverted after crew smells smoky odor in cockpit
A Delta flight headed to Cancun was diverted to Tampa on Thursday after the crew smelled a smoky odor in the cockpit, spokesman Anthony Black said.
No one was hurt, Black said.
The plane left Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport around 9:40 a.m. and stopped in Tampa around 11:15 a.m. By that time, flight crews told maintenance workers at the airport the odor had dissipated – but they examined the plane anyhow and didn’t find any issues, Black said.
“Nothing unusual was on the aircraft,” he said.
About an hour later, the plane left Tampa for Cancun, he said.
The flight is the second of Delta’s to be diverted in two days.
On Wednesday, an Atlanta flight headed to Las Vegas made a precautionary stop in Oklahoma City after the pilot reported problems with one of the engines, according to the Associated Press.
Delta sent another plane from Atlanta to pick up the passengers, who also were given meal and flight vouchers, an airline spokeswoman told the AP.
