DeKalb officer hurt during run-in with suspect

March 24, 2012

A female police officer was being evaluated at a hospital after a run-in with a suspect who appeared to be intoxicated, DeKalb County police said.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial and Columbia drives.

The female officer arrived on the scene as backup to an officer who was responding to a suspicious person call, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

The male suspect slammed the female officer to the ground, and the other officer used his Taser, hitting the suspect and the female officer, she said.

The officer, 28, was alert and conscious when transported to Atlanta Medical Center for evaluation.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with felony obstruction and aggravated assault, police said.

No names have been released.
