A man was fatally shot when he answered a knock at the door of a DeKalb County apartment Sunday night.
The incident took place around 10 p.m. at the Wynhollow Apartments on Austin Circle, police spokesman Stephen Kenney said.
Kenney said the victim, a 24-year-old man, answered a knock at the door and opened opened the door slightly. He was shot once in the face and died at the scene.
The victim's mother told Channel 2 Action News that the man, who she identified as Abdul Basir, was babysitting his girlfriend's children, who were in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
The apartment complex is off Glenwood Road, just west of I-285 in south DeKalb.
No suspect has been identified, Kenney said.
