Fatima A. El-Amin, formerly a child advocate, has been named a juvenile court judge for DeKalb County, taking the seat that was left vacant by the death in December of Judge Elliott Shoenthal.

Juvenile court judges are appointed by the Superior Court judges in that circuit. The judges in the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit, or DeKalb County, appointed El-Amin on Tuesday.

El-Amin, a graduate of Harvard and Emory Universities, has been a supervising attorney at the DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center since 2005.
