DeKalb County is encouraging residents learn new ways to conserve water with a hands-on workshop that helps them build rain barrels.

The county Watershed Management department held the event on Aug. 21 at the Redan Recreation Center, 1839 Phillips Road, near Lithonia. The barrels collect rainwater, which helps with conservation and also reduces water bills.

Cost is $30 and includes all materials needed to make a barrel. The workshop is limited to 20 people.
