The girls track coach at Southwest DeKalb High School has been suspended with pay following allegations of inappropriate contact with a student, a school district spokesman said Tuesday.

Antoinette Tyrell, a health and physical education teacher, was removed from the classroom more than two weeks ago after a parent complained, Walter Woods, spokesman for the DeKalb County schools, told the AJC.

Tyrell, 42, has taught at the school since 2003, Woods said. Prior to that, she was employed at Chapel Hill Middle School, he said.

"Any allegation of this nature is of serious concern to the district," Woods said in an emailed statement. "We are hoping to conclude the investigation as soon as possible and take any necessary action."

Until the investigation is complete, Tyrell will not be allowed to coach the girls track team, Woods said. The team is the defending AAAA state champion heading into the state meet, which begins Thursday in Albany.
