A deli shop in DeKalb County failed its health inspection with a score of 59 this week, after an inspector found food that was past its expiration date and not stored correctly.

Ida’s Deli on Cooledge Road in Tucker serves sandwiches, wings, fish and other deli items.

It racked up almost 10 violations on its Tuesday inspection, according to a report from the DeKalb County Board of Health.

The inspector noticed a pan of a raw whiting fish with a “rancid smell and not in good condition,” the report stated.

The official also found several foods that were past their expiration date, including beans, black eyed peas, collard greens, sour cream, coleslaw, chocolate milk and buttermilk.

Deli foods like turkey meat, lettuce and chicken were at temperatures warmer than what is allowed, according to the report.

Most of the violations were corrected on-site during the inspection.

Managers or owners at Ida’s did not respond to requests for comment on the failing score. The deli will have the chance to improve its score through a follow-up inspection.

During its last inspection, in May, Ida’s scored a 99.

It is located off U.S. 78 behind the Chevron on Cooledge Road and near the intersection with Brockett Road.
