Facilities that provide care for unrelated seniors, the mentally ill or addicts must now operate under new rules in DeKalb County.

The changes are designed to reduce the number of so-called personal care homes in residential areas, especially in south DeKalb.

Homes now will be allowed in residential areas with up to three clients. The Board of County Commissioners would have to approve any facilities with four to six clients in residential areas. The regulations allow for seven or more people to be in homes only in commercial areas.
