During an interview with the AJC, City Schools Decatur Superintendent David Dude said the investigation by an outside party of suspended Decatur High media clerk Susan Riley might encompass more than the popular staffer who’s worked at the high school for 19 years and who’s received hundreds of emails and comments of support.

“It’s quite possible the review could expand into other personnel situations,” said Dude, who on Nov. 2 became only the 10th CSD superintendent since 1902. “But I’ve instructed the reviewer to focus on Susan Riley’s situation first.

“I don’t have any timetable for this,” he said. “I have said to the reviewer I want it to be as fast as possible and still be thorough.”

Dude has previously said the reviewer’s role is to offer advice and that he would make all final personnel decisions.

Since firing and then suspending Riley with pay pending investigation, Dude has conducted two rare emergency meetings with the high school faculty and staff, the most recent March 8.

He said the latest meeting was to simply updated the board on the review.

He continued to refuse to name the investigator or reveal how much the school district is paying for the service.
