Three people drowned in separate incidents Tuesday, bringing the total to six since Saturday in metro Atlanta waters.
In Clayton County, a planned fishing outing turned deadly when a 66-year-old Jonesboro man was found in about 12 feet of water Tuesday afternoon. Ervin Brown arrived at the J.W. Smith Reservoir around 10 a.m., according to Jacqueline Feilke with the Clayton County fire department.
At 11:30, another boater called 911 to that a vehicle was running and a boat was adrift, but there was no sign of the owner, later identified as Brown, Feilke said. After a search of the boat and surrounding area, Brown's body was located in the reservoir, which is located 10 miles south of Jonesboro on Panhandle Road.
Later Tuesday afternoon, search efforts were under way more than 60 miles north at Lake Lanier.
Within minutes Tuesday afternoon, Hall County rescue teams responded to two separate apparent drownings on the lake, both believed to be accidental, Hall County fire Chief David Kimbrell said. Forsyth County firefighters assisted with the recovery efforts.
One rescue team was called at 2:34 p.m. to Van Pugh Park at the lake's southeast corner to help an individual trying to swim across the cove, Kimbrell said. The 19-year-old's body has been recovered, he said. No name has been released.
A second call went out just a minute later when an individual diving from a boat near Old Georgia Highway 141 and Mountain View Park needed help. The search was called off Tuesday night.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of death for a 21-year-old Illinois man involved in water-related incident Monday at Lake Lanier Islands, Hall County Coroner Marion Merck told the AJC. Sergio Edwards was found under a water slide at the park and died early Tuesday after being transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Also at Lake Lanier, a 23-year-old Gainesville man drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming with his family, officials said. Jember Monjaras Henriquez had epilepsy and may have had a seizure, family members told police.
Two people also drowned over the weekend in Lake Allatoona.
Augustine Ramirez-Del Angel, 20, of Norcross, drowned Sunday while swimming at Clark Creek Campground off Glade Road in Acworth. And Byron Brock, 42, of Acworth, disappeared while swimming Sunday. His body was recovered Monday morning.
