A teenager is dead and a man critically injured after an early morning wreck in Cobb County.

Erik Abarca, 19, of Lithia Springs was driving west on I-20 when he lost control of his maroon 1995 Chevrolet Blazer near Six Flags Drive, Cobb police said.

The Blazer overturned and then stopped in the middle of the road.

Abarca got out of the Blazer. Witnesses told police as he was standing next to the vehicle, a silver 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser struck him.

Abarca was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The passenger in the Blazer, 21-year-old Luis Mares of Lithia Springs, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the PT Cruiser, 32-year-old Robert Martin of Winston, was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
