The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a restaurant but with several stipulations so that it cannot operate as a nightclub with a dance floor. Hookah sharing and smoking is not permitted within 100 feet from the closest subdivision.
Commissioner Bob Ott was opposed since he said commissioners should not be allowed to approve the interior layout of a business but instead should deny the application.
“I am opposed to a bar close to neighborhoods,” Ott said.
Owner Naseeb Rana and project manager Andrew Washington will have to follow many regulations for their 5,000-square-foot restaurant on the south side of Sandy Plains Road and west of Ga. 92 at a former Pizza Hut location.
Community opposition included 49 present at the meeting, a petition with 531 names, more than 130 emails and 56 residents attending a community meeting last Wednesday with Commissioner JoAnn Birrell.
Birrell will have the final approval of the interior site plan to be sure there is enough seating for restaurant patrons and no smoking areas for hookah, no DJ booth, no dance floor, no VIP room and no outside music or sounds except for outdoor dining for 20 patrons.
Also, there will be no idling of trucks, no lighting directed toward any residence and no parking behind the building.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
