Atlanta police said they have detained a possible suspect in the Monday shooting death of an unidentified woman in southwest Atlanta.
The suspect, who police said was held by a crowd just after the shooting, has not yet been charged with the woman's killing.
Officers first arrived at the scene, just outside the Brentwood Creek apartment complex near the intersection of Myrtle Drive and Allison Court, around 3 p.m. Monday.
"Upon arrival, officers located an approximately 30-year-old female who appeared to have been shot and killed on scene," Officer John Chafee told the AJC. "Homicide investigators responded and began processing the scene and canvassing the area for anyone with information on the incident."
While there, Chafee said, investigators learned that local residents were holding a possible suspect.
"Investigators have detained that person as they investigate any possible involvement," Chafee said.
Residents have also provided some information to the police, he said, and investigators "are following up on that."
