I-85 crash, foot chase snarls Gwinnett rush hour

A multiple-vehicle accident followed by a foot chase snarled Friday's rush hour on northbound I-85 at Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Gwinnett County.

Five vehicles were involved in the wreck, police said.

"One of the drivers attempted to flee the scene on foot and was caught by responding officers," Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"The only person transported by ambulance was the person who tried to flee from the accident," Smith said.

The suspect, who had minor injuries, was apprehended after a "very brief" chase, Smith said. "He resisted arrest, but did not injure the officers."

The Georgia State Road and Tollway Authority reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. that an accident was disrupting I-85's high-occupancy toll lane south of Jimmy Carter. Operations were reported back to normal about 5:30 p.m.
