Charges were pending against a 17-year-old involved in a head-on collision  in Newton County early Saturday that left a Covington woman dead, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 2:48 a.m. Saturday, the Georgia State Patrol told Channel 2 Action News.

Alison M. Bell, 56, who driving a 2002 Ford Explorer, was struck head-on by a 2003 Ford Ranger driven by McKenzie Farrow Crowe of Oxford, the State Patrol said.

Crowe is suspected of driving under the influence and crossing the center line. A spokesman said blood was drawn from the woman for analysis.

Crowe was airlifted to Grady Memorial hospital for treatment, the GSP said.
