Court allows lawyer to give up law license

The Georgia Supreme Court has let Atlanta lawyer Edward C. Henderson Jr. voluntarily surrender his law license for actions he took in three personal injury cases.

Henderson received settlement funds in those cases but failed to timely disburse the money to his clients, instead keeping the money for himself, the court said. In two cases, he failed to deposit funds in his trust account or comply with a court order to disburse the funds, the court said. It noted Henderson has since disbursed funds in two cases and made a partial payment in the third.

The court noted that allowing Henderson to voluntarily surrender his law license is tantamount to disbarment. The court had previously rejected Henderson's petition for voluntary discipline and a one-year suspension from practicing law.
