An Adairsville couple has been jailed on theft charges after they allegedly stole more than $88,000 from a Cobb County church, Channel 2 Action News reports.

James Earnest Street and Susan Marie Summers took money from Noonday Baptist Church, 4121 Canton Road, according to an arrest warrant for the pair. The alleged thefts occurred between Dec. 17 and Sept. 7.

Summers, 50, an employee of the church, opened a joint account with Street, 51, funded by 51 checks totaling $88,609.41 written by the woman on the church’s account, the warrant stated.

Street has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property, and Summers, with theft by taking and forgery, according to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple was booked into Cobb County Jail on Saturday. They are being held on bonds of $100,000 apiece.
