County marshal ‘forgets' about pot plant

A county marshal in northwest Georgia apparently was too busy to move a marijuana plant, instead letting it grow in a courthouse window for two months.

Murray County Marshal Clifford Thompson told Channel 9 in Chattanooga that he knew he should have moved the 3-feet-tall plant. Two months ago, a landlord who found the plant on his property gave it to Thompson, who contemplated prosecuting whoever planted it.

“I made up my mind probably three weeks ago that I wasn't going to do anything with it," Thompson told Channel 9. "Like I said, I'll shoulder the blame. I should have done got rid of it and I just didn't do it.”

After a local newspaper took a picture of the plant, it was given to Chatsworth police, who destroyed it.
