Living history museum now on historic register
The Root House, a living history museum, has been named to the National Register of Historic Places.
The circa 1845 house, one of the oldest frame houses in Marietta, is owned by the Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society. Hours: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday - Saturday. Information: www.cobblandmarks.com.

Water, sewer rates to increase
A rate increase for the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority is about to go into effect. Find new rates on bills on or after May 1. The base rate for water and sewer service will increase by $1 and water and sewer rates will climb 5 percent for usage above 2,000 gallons. Rates are jumping because of increased materials costs and operating expenses.

Volunteers needed for ‘Cleanup’
Volunteers can sign up through today to help Keep DeKalb Beautiful with the Great American Cleanup.
The group will provide supplies such as garbage bags, plastic gloves and pick-up sticks for the two upcoming cleanups.
The events will be held April 26 and May 3 across DeKalb.

College Park getting improved street signs
Public works crews in College Park have been installing new and improved street signs citywide.
Officials say the signs feature upper- and lower-case lettering and improved reflectivity to enhance readability.
The city is making the signs in-house as part of the $32,000 project.
The city’s public works director says installations are being done in the historic district first, and then will proceed by ward, with arterial streets getting the new signage upfront.

Suwanee seeking artists for May festival
Arts in the Park will return to Suwanee Town Center Park on May 17, with a retro theme of Peace, Love & Arts in the Parkand it is accepting applications for artists interested in exhibiting, and perhaps demonstrating, their work at the juried festival. Cleanup challenge underway through May
Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful is hosting the Great American Cleanup Gwinnett Challenge, through May 31. Volunteers will beautify neighborhoods, reduce waste, initiate recycling programs, and plant trees. Open to businesses, governments, school, church and civic groups, athletic teams and individuals.
